2023 Fall Orton Gillingham Training:

LEVEL 1 - Saturday, September 23, 2023 - February 7, 2024*

This course offers:

  • Coursework:  35 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.
  • Practicum:  Up to 60 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

LEVEL 2 - Saturday, September 16, 2023 - February 8, 2024*

This course offers:

  • Coursework:  25 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.
  • Practicum:  Up to 60 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

*What's the Difference Between Levels 1 & 2?

In the Fall, we are offering a less concentrated way to get your Orton Gillingham training.  We've divided the material from the 2023 Summer course into two courses, with fewer course hours, to accommodate teachers' busy schedules during the school year.  See the courses' content listed below.

If you have never taken an Orton Gillingham training, start with Level 1.

If you have taken Orton Gillingham training from us previously and you want a refresher course - take Level 1 or Level 2 - you will receive a discount!

Tuition and Materials

LEVEL 1 Tuition - $3,280* -  Lecture and Practicum

LEVEL 2 Tuition - $2,480* - Lecture and Practicum

LEVEL 1 & 2 Materials - $50 (approx.)

$500 non-refundable deposit is due upon acceptance. Balance of tuition due two weeks prior to the start of the selected Training Cohort.

*SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS.

 

Technology Requirements:

Minimum technology requirements for OGRS online lecture and practicum include:

  • A desktop or laptop computer with a camera and microphone, capable of supporting Zoom, Dropbox, etc. (No Chromebooks - they don't work well with Zoom and no IPads or Notebooks - too small)
  • Please review the technology requirements for a Zoom session.
  • High-speed, reliable internet service
  • Over-the-ear headphones, with a noise-canceling microphone
  • Printer/Scanner

Level 1 Coursework

Level 1 Coursework Includes

  • Principles of effective instruction
  • Dyslexia and other learning disabilities
  • Pre-reading skills intervention including phonological awareness and phonemic awareness
  • Intro to the structure and history of the English language
  • Intro to phonology
  • Teaching language structure using seminal OG works including Rome and Osman’s Language Tool Kit and A Guide to Teaching Phonics, by June Lyday Orton
  • Multisensory techniques
  • Metacognitive thinking/Socratic questioning
  • Teaching handwriting
  • Writing decodable text
  • Administering screening and progress monitoring measures
  • Documenting student progress

  •  In our Extended Practicum Program, you have the option to earn additional supervised practicum hours.
  • Small training group, highly individualized.
  • No travel is necessary to attend the training.

Level 2 Coursework

Level 2 Coursework Includes

  • Principles of effective instruction
  • Teaching language structure using seminal OG works including Rome and Osman’s Language Tool Kit and A Guide to Teaching Phonics, by June Lyday Orton.
  • Multisensory techniques
  • Beginning affixes
  • Syllables and syllabication
  • Endings rules for suffixes
  • Metacognitive thinking/Socratic questioning
  • Teaching handwriting
  • Administering screening and progress monitoring measures
  • Documenting student progress
