Coursework:  60 hours – synchronous online through OGRS.

Practicum:  60 hours – synchronous online through OGRS.

 

2023 Fall Orton Gillingham Training:

LEVEL 1 - Saturday, September 23, 2023 - February 7, 2024*

This course offers:

Coursework:  35 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

Practicum:  60 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

LEVEL 2 - Saturday, September 16, 2023 - February 8, 2024*

This course offers:

Coursework:  25 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

Practicum:  60 hours - synchronous online through OGRS.

2023 Summer Condensed OG Training

$4,000 – Lecture and Practicum

$50 (approx.) – Materials:

  • Language Tool Kit, by Paula D. Rome and Jean S. Osman

$500 non-refundable deposit is due upon acceptance. Balance of tuition due two weeks prior to the start of the selected Cohort.

 

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS.

 

Technology Requirements:

Minimum technology requirements for OGRS online lecture and practicum include:

  • A desktop or laptop computer with a camera and microphone, capable of supporting Zoom, Dropbox, etc. (No Chromebooks - they don't work well with Zoom and no IPads or Notebooks - too small)
  • Please review the technology requirements for a Zoom session.
  • High-speed, reliable internet service
  • Over-the-ear headphones, with a noise-canceling microphone
  • Printer/Scanner

Prerequisites for all Courses

  • Candidates must be computer literate; able to operate Zoom or similar video conferencing programs, Dropbox, etc.
  • Candidates must have the proper technology and equipment – as listed below.

Level 1 Tuition and Materials

Level 1 Coursework Includes

  • Principles of effective instruction
  • Dyslexia and other learning disabilities
  • Pre-reading skills intervention including phonological awareness and phonemic awareness
  • Intro to the structure and history of the English language
  • Intro to phonology
  • Teaching language structure using seminal OG works including Rome and Osman’s Language Tool Kit and A Guide to Teaching Phonics, by June Lyday Orton
  • Multisensory techniques
  • Metacognitive thinking/Socratic questioning
  • Teaching handwriting
  • Writing decodable text
  • Administering screening and progress monitoring measures
  • Documenting student progress

  • Syllables and syllabication
  • Endings rules for suffixes
  • Metacognitive thinking/Socratic questioning
  • Teaching handwriting
  • Administering screening and progress monitoring measures
  • Documenting student progress

Extended Practicums

If you are planning to apply for certification with us, or any other certifying agency, you will need additional practicum hours in addition to the ones you earned in our OG Training Program. We offer the following option to earn more practicum hours.

*Orton Gillingham Academy requires that applications must be submitted to them within 12 months of starting your OG Training Cohort with OGRS.

Extended Practicum Program 1

Price:  $600.00

Prerequisite:  Orton Gillingham Training Cohort at Orton Gillingham Reading Specialists

Provides:

  • Up to 60 additional practicum hours.
  • Supervision and feedback from an OGRS Master Specialist.
  • Three (3) observations by Karen Sonday, OGA Fellow, including written and verbal feedback.
  • Coaching during your Orton Gillingham Academy, Associate Level certification application process.
  • Students to work with during the practicum.

Extended Practicum Program 2

Price - $800.00

Prerequisite – Extended Practicum 1 at Orton Gillingham Reading Specialists

Provides:

  • Up to 60 additional practicum hours.
  • Supervision and feedback from an OGRS Master Specialist.
  • Four (4) observations by Karen Sonday, OGA Fellow, including written and verbal feedback.
  • Coaching during your Orton Gillingham Academy, Associate Level certification application process.
  • Students to work with during the practicum.
